[Translate to Englisch:] Your school in Germany
[Translate to Englisch:] During your stay in Germany you will go to school as usual. This has various advantages: You get to know many of your peers right at the beginning, improve your German language skills and can significantly expand your knowledge horizons.
In other words, it is the place through which you are quickly and easily integrated into the foreign society.
The German school system
The German school system is certainly different from the system you know from home. All children from the age of six are required to attend school. After four years of primary school, the system is divided into three areas:
- Secondary school
- Secondary school
- Grammar school
Although there are also comprehensive schools, comparatively few.
Based on your age and previous knowledge, you are expected to attend the tenth or eleventh grade of a high school. The Gymnasium is the school with the highest academic standards.
[Translate to Englisch:] The full program
Like your classmates, you will complete a full class, do homework and write exams. You are expected to have a high degree of motivation.
Classes start at 8:00 a.m. and usually end around 1:30 p.m. Classes are held five days a week (Monday to Friday). In the afternoon, working groups, e.B. computer science, sports, music, etc., are offered. The beginning of a school year depends on the state and varies from the beginning of August to mid-September.
Just don't be afraid of language difficulties
In the beginning, it may be a bit difficult due to the language skills. But don't worry: everyone understands that. You can be sure that the teachers will pave all the way for you as an exchange student so that you can find your way around quickly.
By the way: You have to bear the costs for school materials, books – as far as they are not provided by the school – and the use of public transport to the school yourself.
