[Translate to Englisch:] Application
[Translate to Englisch:] How can I apply for a school year or a school semester in Germany? More about the application process.
[Translate to Englisch:] Visa and residence permit
[Translate to Englisch:] Exchange students from member states of the European Union (EU) do not need a visa for their stay in Germany and since 01.01.05 also no residence permit.
Exchange students from member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – including Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland – as well as from the USA, Honduras, Monaco and San Remo also do not need a visa. However, the residence permit for these students is initially only three months. An extension can be made upon application to the immigration authority responsible for the residence of the host family.
Exchange students from all other countries can only enter with a valid visa. You must apply for your visa in good time (at least two months before the start of the program) at the German mission abroad in your home country. ICX provides all necessary documents. The validity of the visa is generally limited to three months. For the time after that, these students also need a residence permit, which they must apply for at the responsible immigration authority.
ICX covers the processing fee of the Foreigners' Registration Office for the issuance of the residence permit.
Exchange students should also be in possession of an international vaccination certificate.
[Translate to Englisch:] Insurances
[Translate to Englisch:] For the duration of their stay in Germany, all participants need health, accident and personal liability insurance.
Health insurance
Participants from countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) – including all EU and EFTA member states – are covered by health insurance within the framework of statutory health insurance in Germany. In order to receive medical services, students must be in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) issued to them by their health insurance provider in their home country.
For participants who do not come from EEA countries, ICX takes out health insurance. This means that all costs for medically necessary treatment and medication are covered.
Accident and personal liability insurance
ICX guarantees accident and personal liability insurance coverage for all participants.

The remaining amount is due on July 15 for annual students and for participants in the program in the 1st half of the school year or on December 15 for participants in the program in the 2nd half of the school year.
If you want to withdraw from the contract for important reasons – after conclusion of the contract and before the start of the program – a written declaration is required. A refund of the deposit of 500 € is unfortunately not possible.
In the event of a withdrawal after the start of the program, there is no entitlement to a refund of the program price.
